Country Programming Details
EnABLE's knowledge and capacity building activities in Costa Rica, which were undertaken during FY22–FY23, primarily focused on engaging Indigenous Peoples (IPs) and traditional local communities (LCs) to assess needs and develop strategies to enhance their participation in the country’s emission reductions program (ERP).
EnABLE country programming in Costa Rica is intended to promote socially inclusive sharing of the country’s ERP benefits among Indigenous and vulnerable communities, particularly women and youth within these groups. Country programming is being implemented by the Environmental Development Bank (Fundación Banco Ambiental or FUNBAM) in partnership with Indigenous organizations.
A preliminary proposal was endorsed by the EnABLE Steering Committee on June 1, 2023. The Project has been approved and starts implementation in September 2025. The Project aims to strengthen capacity within IP and LC organizations, to enhance IP and LC participation in climate change–related decision-making forums, to promote target constituencies’ access to ERP benefits, and to enhance IP and LC organizations’ ability to implement the country’s environmental forest and territorial plans.
