Field Visit (Optional)

Option 1: Half-day trip (see details in annotations below) Morning visit to the George Washington National Forest, which offers opportunities to learn about forest management for a multiple-use forest with production, wilderness, and recreation areas.

Option 2: Full-day trip (see details in annotations below) Morning visit to the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute (SCBI) in Front Royal, Virginia. SCBI holds one of the Smithsonian forest plots, as well as NEON, a large national ecological observation network. This will be followed by an afternoon visit to the George Washington National Forest
