The Government of Indonesia’s Emission Reductions Program with the FCPF is finding safe solutions to continue its stakeholder engagement during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In September, the government’s safeguards team for East Kalimantan was able to hold Free, Prior, and Inform Consent (FPIC) workshops in 150 villages by taking several precautionary steps. These included: assessing villages’ COVID-19 status; developing guidelines to conduct FPIC with adjustments made to each village’s conditions; and coordinating with health service agencies.

Following similar pandemic protocols, the central government was also able to conduct capacity-building workshops on measurement, monitoring, and reporting. These workshops trained participants from Jambi and East Kalimantan provincial governments on greenhouse gas accounting, using the FAO’s Planet data facility. East Kalimantan has now finalized the data collection for its emission reductions safeguards due diligence exercise. The province has also started data analysis, and is aiming to submit its results to the World Bank in November 2020.
